NBCCD Graduate Exhibition at The Beaverbrook Art Gallery
InDesign/ Illustrator, 2024
Overview: Each year, the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) hosts a grand exhibition at the Beaverbrook Gallery to showcase the work of its graduates. For this project, I was tasked with creating posters, postcards, social media materials, and website content. The prompt was to incorporate the gallery's location or be inspired by its architectural columns.
Objective: To design promotional materials that highlighted the prestigious Beaverbrook Gallery location, using its architectural features for inspiration while ensuring the design remains visually balanced and appealing.
Solution: I chose to illustrate parts of the building, focusing on vertical elements without overwhelming the viewer with too many lines. A monochrome tone was used to reflect the actual building's appearance and to maintain a cohesive aesthetic. The combination of blue and white created a cool, modern look.
Design Approach:
Architectural Inspiration: Illustrated select parts of the Beaverbrook Gallery building, emphasizing its columns without creating visual clutter.
Monochrome Tone: Adopted a monochrome palette to closely mirror the building’s real colors and to maintain a sophisticated and cohesive look.
Clean Aesthetic: Combined blue and white to produce a cool and modern aesthetic, enhancing visual appeal and readability.
Outcome: The final designs were well-received, appreciated for their balance and modern aesthetic. The use of blue on a white background was particularly noted for its cool and stylish appearance. The promotional materials effectively conveyed the prestige of the event and the gallery.
