Annual Report and Viewbook Design
InDesign/ Illustrator, 2023
Overview: Each year, the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) produces an annual report and viewbook to reflect on the past year and market the college to prospective students. The viewbook is a critical piece used by recruiters to advertise the college and encourage enrollment for the upcoming year.
Objective: To design a comprehensive, cost-effective viewbook that effectively covers essential information such as the 11 programs, financial information, application processes, and other key details, while maintaining a visually appealing and engaging format.
Solution: Adopting a theme of "working hands" to showcase the interaction between hands and tools, I designed the viewbook using a mix of mechanical and hand-written typefaces. This contrast added visual interest to the information-packed booklet. Hand-drawn illustrations were incorporated to tie the design elements together.
Design Approach:
Theme of Working Hands: Showcased the interaction of hands and tools, emphasizing the hands-on nature of the college's programs.
Typeface Contrast: Combined a mechanical typeface with a hand-written style to create a dynamic and engaging visual contrast.
Hand-Drawn Illustrations: Integrated hand-drawn elements to enhance the theme and unify the design.
Cost-Effective Design: Designed the viewbook in a 6 by 9-inch format to be cost-effective while ensuring all necessary information was included and easily accessible.
Outcome: The viewbook was a success, garnering attention for its distinctive yet organized design. It effectively communicated the college's offerings and was easy to read and remember, making it a valuable tool for recruiters.
